The Friends of Barefoot Beach Preserve is a volunteer organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, and enhancing natural features of the Barefoot Beach Preserve. The group fosters research and education endeavors, distributes literature, and secures volunteers to assist Collier County at the Preserve.
Each week January through April, naturalist guided walks and talks are sponsored by the Friends of Barefoot Beach Preserve. These Programs are free. There is an entrance fee into the park for those who do not have a current Collier County beach parking permit. For programs, park in the first parking area on the right and meet at the Learning Center.
Beachcombing & Shelling is offered Mondays and Fridays at 10 a.m. What do wrack lines, jellies, blue buttons, beachhoppers, ghosts, sea pork, and beans have in common? Come find out at this lecture on Beachcombing & Shelling.
Exploring Coastal Estuaries is offered on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Take a naturalist guided walk to the estuary and along a sandy trail to the beach. Explore one of the most productive ecosystems in nature and the unique coastal habitats at the Preserve. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, bring water, and wear sun protection for this 2+ hour walk.
A Guided Nature Walk is offered on Saturdays at 9-10 a.m. Enjoy a guided walk by a naturalist along the boardwalk through a maritime forest and coastal strand. Learn the importance of barrier islands, how our ancestors used Florida’s state tree and about some of the native plants on barrier islands of Southwest Florida.
The Saturday Lecture Series is held weekly at 10 a.m. Experience lectures on a multitude of topics, from native plants or animals to photography or exotic plants.
