Tips for a safe, fun Fourth in Southwest Florida
- Beat the heat and storms. July afternoons in SWFL are hot and often bring thunderstorms. Hydrate, pack ponchos, and check the radar before evening events.
- Arrive early for fireworks. Beach and downtown parking fills up fast — many shows recommend trolleys, carpooling, or rideshare.
- Protect nesting sea turtles. It’s nesting season on our beaches: fill in any holes, take your gear with you, and avoid bright white lights and personal fireworks on the sand.
- Plan around bridge closures. The Cape Coral Bridge (3 a.m.) and Fort Myers Beach’s Matanzas Pass Bridge (9–11 p.m.) have closures on the 4th.
- Heading to the water first? Read our guide to water safety for kids in Collier and Lee Counties.
