Coral reefs form habitats where an astonishing array of animals thrives. Reefs are home to thousands of species found nowhere else on earth, most with complex adaptations for living in close proximity with this variety of neighbors. Through the Discovery Reef exhibit visitor will discover the amazing forms, survival strategies and relationships on the coral reef and its crucial role in the ocean food web.
The exhibit is open to the public June 5 through July 31 at the South Regional Library, 8065 Lely Cultural Parkway on Monday, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Fridays & Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Exhibit Features:
• Central Gallery displays a colorful model of the coral reef with life-like replicas of reef animals.
• Coral Anatomy panel explains coral polyp structure and function.
• Reef Relationships panel enables visitors to match animals according to various types of symbiotic relationships.
• Day/Night panel shows how animals change their behavior according to light and darkness.
School groups, organizations and community groups can make a reservation to view the exhibit on Wednesdays between 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. hourly beginning June 4th. To reserve a date and time, contact (239) 252-7542 and ask for Discovery Reef Reservations.
