Water safety for kids in Collier and Lee Counties starts with layers of protection. Drowning is silent, fast, and preventable. In Florida, drowning is the leading cause of death among children ages 1-4 and as of June 2026, 50 children have drown in Florida so far this year, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

No single device, rule, or swim class can prevent every drowning. Children are safest when parents and caregivers use several protections at the same time: active supervision, barriers, swim skills, life jackets, rescue training, and CPR.

Drowning happens to the best parents and the best people. The goal is not guilt. The goal is preparation.

Drowning Can Happen in Seconds

Drowning can happen quickly and quietly. A child may slip into a pool, canal, lake, pond, or other body of water without splashing or calling for help. Never assume that a kid in trouble in the water will make noise.

Children under age 5 are at the highest risk. In Florida, enough young children drown each year to fill three to four preschool classrooms.

Key action: If don’t see your child, check nearby pools and other water areas first. Seconds matter.

What Are the Best Layers of Protection?

The NCH Safe & Healthy Children’s Coalition recommends using multiple layers of protection around water. These layers work together to prevent access, alert adults, and reduce injury if a child reaches the water.

Strong water safety for kids in Collier and Lee Counties includes:

Active adult supervision

Fences, gates, door alarms, and pool covers

Swim lessons and water safety education

U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets

Basic water rescue skills

First aid and CPR training

Each layer matters. None replaces another.

How Should Parents Supervise Kids Around Water?

There is no substitute for active supervision. When children are in or near water, give them your full attention.

Put away phones, books, long conversations, and other distractions while children are swimming or playing near water.

When several adults are present, use a Water Watcher system. One adult is assigned to watch the children for a set period, such as 15 minutes. Then another adult takes over.

This prevents the common mistake of assuming someone else is watching.

Stay close enough to reach young children quickly.

Watch children near pools, canals, lakes, ponds, beaches, and bathtubs.

Never leave a child alone around water.

Check water areas first if a child goes missing.

What Barriers Help Keep Children Away from Water?

Barriers help prevent young children from reaching water without an adult. They are especially important in Southwest Florida, where pools, canals, lakes, and ponds are common.

Walk through your home and yard from your child’s eye level. Look for any way a child could reach water without being seen.

Useful barriers include:

Pool fences

Self-closing and self-latching gates

Secured doors

Door and window alarms

Pool safety covers

Working drain covers

Alarms do not replace supervision or barriers. They add another layer by alerting adults if a door, window, or gate has been opened.

Collier County residents may be able to get free door or window alarms through the Florida Drowning Prevention Foundation. Visit floridadrowningpreventionfoundation.com/resources for details.

When Should Children Learn to Swim?

All family members should learn to swim well. The American Academy of Pediatrics says children can safely begin swim lessons as early as age 1, depending on readiness.

Choose swim lessons that match your child’s age, comfort level, and ability. Then keep practicing.

Children should also learn that they must never swim alone. An adult must watch them in the pool, canal, lake, or other water area. No one should ever swim alone, including adults. Anyone can drown, including strong swimmers.

Swim lessons reduce risk, but they do not make a child drown-proof. Even skilled swimmers need supervision.

Teach children to ask an adult before they enter water.

Use U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets for young or inexperienced swimmers, and always use a life jackets on a boat. It’s the law.

Do not rely on floaties as safety devices. These inexpensive toys are just that – toys, not safety devices. Children can remove them easily, and they often leak or burst. They should never be used unless the child is a strong swimmer (without the aid of a floatie) or an adult is in the water.

Keep young children within arm’s reach when in the water.

The Florida Drowning Prevention Foundation offers swim lesson scholarships for all age groups in Florida. Visit www.fldpf.org/swim-scholarship.

Where Can Families Find Life Jackets and Swim Resources?

Life jackets are an important layer of protection for young children and inexperienced swimmers. They should be U.S. Coast Guard-approved and fit properly.

The NCH Safe & Healthy Children’s Coalition has life jackets available at 18 Life Jacket Loaner Stations at public access beaches. Find the locations at Safe Healthy Children.

Before a beach, boating, or pool day, check that each child has the right-size life jacket and knows when to wear it.

For local water play ideas, review splash pads for kids in Collier and Lee Counties and places to get wet and cool off in Naples. Even at family-friendly water spots, supervision is still the most important safety rule.

What Should Parents Know About CPR and Rescue?

Parents and caregivers should know how to respond in a water emergency. Basic water rescue skills, first aid, and CPR can save a life.

Keep rescue equipment and a phone near the pool. Make sure babysitters, grandparents, and other caregivers know where they are.

Parents should also know what to do before an emergency happens:

Take a CPR class.

Learn basic water rescue skills.

Post emergency numbers near the pool.

Keep pool toys away from the water when not in use.

Make sure all caregivers understand your water safety rules.

The Water Smart Collier website includes water safety resources, swim lesson locations, and CPR certification information for parents and caregivers. Visit watersmartcollier.com.

How Can Families Make Water Safety a Habit?

Water safety for kids in Collier and Lee Counties should be part of everyday family life. In Southwest Florida, water is everywhere, so prevention needs to be constant.

Talk about water rules before playdates, pool parties, beach trips, boating days, and visits to homes with pools.

Make one adult responsible for watching the water every time children are nearby.

Review water rules before every outing.

Ask about pool fences and alarms before playdates.

Bring properly fitted life jackets when needed.

Enroll children in swim lessons when they are ready.

Update CPR training regularly.

Drowning is preventable. With supervision, barriers, swim skills, life jackets, CPR, and local resources, families can help keep children safer in and around water.

Lee County dual enrollment options are expanding through a new partnership between The School District of Lee County and the University of Florida.

The district and UF announced an articulation agreement that gives qualified juniors and seniors in the district’s 15 high schools the only opportunity in Southwest Florida to register for dual-enrollment courses through UF.

According to the announcement, 68 students have already signed up to begin classes in August.

The program offers families another way for students to earn college credits while still in high school. For families comparing education options across Collier and Lee Counties, this partnership adds a new university pathway in Southwest Florida.

Where is the new UF dual enrollment program available?

The new Lee County dual enrollment agreement applies to qualified students attending one of The School District of Lee County’s 15 high schools.

Through the partnership, eligible high school juniors and seniors can register for dual-enrollment courses through the University of Florida.

The courses are fully online undergraduate courses taught directly by University of Florida faculty.

Students who complete UF dual enrollment courses can earn credits that fulfill requirements at UF. The announcement also states that earned credits can transfer to other public and private postsecondary institutions nationwide at their discretion.

Families should understand that transfer decisions are made by the receiving institution. Your child’s school counselor can help explain how credits may fit into graduation planning and future college goals.

The district says this agreement expands the dual enrollment opportunities already available to students through Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida SouthWestern State College, and Barry University.

Who can qualify for Lee County dual enrollment through UF?

To qualify for the UF Dual Enrollment program, students must maintain a minimum 3.6 cumulative unweighted high school GPA.

Students also must meet competitive standardized test score thresholds on the SAT, ACT, or CLT exams.

The announcement describes the program as an option for eligible high school juniors and seniors. It does not list additional eligibility details, deadlines, or course-by-course requirements.

Dr. Nathan Shaker, Chief Academic Officer for The School District of Lee County, said, “We are incredibly proud to partner with the University of Florida to offer our students a direct pipeline to one of the nation’s top public research universities,”

He added, “This agreement aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing diverse, rigorous, and competitive pathways that prepare our students for global success. Our students are more than ready to meet the challenge of UF’s top-tier curriculum.”

Families should check directly with their student’s school for application steps, testing requirements, and course selection support.

What courses and benefits does the UF partnership offer students?

Through UF Dual Enrollment, eligible students can choose from a catalog of fully online undergraduate courses.

The announcement says the courses are taught by University of Florida faculty and are designed to provide rigorous college-level learning.

For participating families, the UF courses will be provided at no cost. That can represent financial savings on future postsecondary education.

Key details for parents include:

Courses are fully online.

Courses are undergraduate-level UF classes.

Courses are taught by University of Florida faculty.

Participating families pay no cost for the UF courses.

Credits fulfill requirements at UF.

Credits may transfer to other institutions at their discretion.

Nico Rose, Assistant Provost and Senior Director for Teaching and Technology at the University of Florida, said, “We are excited to welcome Lee County to UF Dual Enrollment as we continue expanding opportunities for students across the state, from the Florida Keys to the Panhandle,”

Rose added, “By connecting high school students with rigorous, innovative UF courses, this partnership contributes to the future talent pipeline for our state by supporting college readiness and strengthening pathways to higher education.”

Next step: Talk with your child about whether online college coursework matches their schedule, study habits, and goals.

How can parents get more information or prepare their student?

Families interested in Lee County dual enrollment through UF should start with their student’s high school.

Looking for waterparks near Southwest Florida that work for your child’s age, your budget, and the summer heat? Collier and Lee County families have more options than a hot beach afternoon. From Naples splash zones and Cape Coral thrill slides to indoor waterparks and resort-style pools, these local, close-to-home spots offer slides, lazy rivers, splash playgrounds, and enough water fun to wear kids out before dinner.

Always check park websites before you go. Summer hours, ticket prices, maintenance closures, and weather policies can change quickly.

Where can Naples families find classic waterpark fun?

Sun-N-Fun Lagoon

Sun-N-Fun Lagoon is a longtime favorite for Collier County families. Tucked inside North Collier Regional Park, it offers plenty of splashy fun without feeling as overwhelming as a giant theme park.

The park features four pools, five water slides, a 1,250-linear-foot lazy river, and a splash playground with interactive water features. Free parking, concessions, lockers, and free life vests make it a practical summer choice.

Address: 15000 Livingston Rd., Naples

Website: www.napleswaterpark.com

Best for: toddlers and elementary-aged children

Top features: lazy river, five slides, splash playground, and age-specific play areas

Good to know: older teens may find it small, but younger families get strong value

The Tadpole Pool is designed for children six and younger, with just 18 inches of water. Ages 5-12 can explore Pirates Cove, which includes lily pad crossings, water pistols, and rope courses.

For bigger thrills, the wooden slide tower offers five different slides. It is a solid local choice for waterpark fun close to home without a long drive.

Which Cape Coral waterpark is best for all ages?

Sun Splash Family Waterpark

Sun Splash Family Waterpark in Cape Coral is the closest major waterpark for many Lee and Collier County families. Operated by Cape Coral Parks and Recreation, the 14-acre park offers a full waterpark experience without a long road trip.

For summer 2026, the big draw is Paradise Cove, a new wave pool large enough for families who want more than slides. It gives Sun Splash an added resort-style feel while keeping the park budget-friendly.

Address: 400 W. Lake Kennedy Blvd., Cape Coral

Website: sunsplashwaterpark.com

Best for: all ages

Top features: wave pool, lazy river, thrill slides, kids’ splash zone, cabanas, and concessions

Good to know: free parking makes it easier for a full family day

Thrill-seekers can head for Cape Fear, a 30-foot enclosed dark-tunnel slide. Older kids and teens will also like Electric Slide and Power Surge, two long tube rides with plenty of speed.

For bigger drops, Thunder Bump, Terror Tube, and X-celerator deliver more intense rides. Younger children can stay in Pirate’s Cove, a gentler splash zone with small slides and interactive water features.

Families who want a slower pace can float along the quarter-mile lazy river. A zero-depth entry family pool with a sandy beach gives younger swimmers more room to play.

Where can families get a lagoon-style beach day in Lee County?

Brightwater Lagoon in North Fort Myers offers a different kind of water day for families who want beachy relaxation with a few built-in thrills. Instead of a traditional waterpark layout, the lagoon centers on clear blue water, sandy beach areas, and resort-style seating.

The 5-acre lagoon gives families room to swim, relax, and spread out without having to drive to the Gulf. It is especially appealing when you want the feel of a beach day without hauling every beach necessity or dealing with coastal parking.

Address: 8630 Sunny Page Lane, North Fort Myers

Website: www.metrolagoons.com/brightwater-lagoon-fort-myers

Best for: families with school-aged kids, tweens, teens, and adults who want a relaxed daycation feel

Top features: sandy beaches, swimming areas, water slide, floating obstacle course, kayaks, paddleboards, food trucks, and cabanas

Good to know: activity times can vary, and buying tickets online may save money

Kids who want more action can try the floating obstacle course or head for the water slide. Families looking for a slower pace can swim, lounge on the sand, rent a cabana, or try kayaking or paddleboarding.

Food trucks, drinks, and special events help give Brightwater Lagoon more of a resort-day atmosphere than a public pool. It is not the best fit for toddlers who need shallow splash-play areas, but it can be a fun option for families with older kids who want room to move.

What is the best indoor waterpark near Naples?

Great Wolf Lodge Naples

Great Wolf Lodge Naples is the weatherproof splurge. Florida’s first Great Wolf Lodge opened in Naples in 2024, and its indoor waterpark is a major advantage during summer heat and afternoon storms.

The 92,000-square-foot indoor waterpark is kept at 84 degrees year-round. Day passes are available for families who do not want to stay overnight.

Address: 3900 City Gate Blvd. N., Naples

Website: www.greatwolf.com/naples

Best for: toddlers through teens

Top features: wave pool, lazy river, water fort, waterslides, outdoor water playground, and family activities

Good to know: it works well for birthdays, staycations, and rainy summer days. Great Wolf Lodge has a partnership with IBCCES, the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards, for autism and neurodiversity accessibility. Download their sensory guide here.

Inside, kids can explore a four-story interactive water fort treehouse, multiple slides, a wave pool, and a lazy river. Parents can also take a break in the hot spring area.

Beyond the waterpark, the resort offers MagiQuest, an arcade, character meet-and-greets, storytime, dance parties, and family activities. The 500 family suites make it a natural choice for a multi-day visit.

Where can families cool off without a full day at a waterpark?

Golden Gate Aquatic Facility

Golden Gate Aquatic Facility is not a full-scale waterpark, but it offers plenty for families who want an affordable Naples outing. It is especially helpful when you need a few hours of water fun instead of a full-day commitment.

Operated by Collier County Parks and Recreation, the facility combines lap swimming with splashy extras for younger kids. The main draw is a pair of water slides that twist into a heated recreational pool.

Address: 3300 Santa Barbara Blvd., Naples

Website: www.collierparks.com/collier_park/golden-gate-aquatic-facility

Best for: younger children and budget-conscious families

Top features: water slides, zero-depth entry, splash playground, diving boards, and lap lanes

Good to know: shaded seating makes repeat summer visits easier

The zero-depth entry area works well for swimmers still building confidence. A separate interactive splash playground includes sprayers, fountains, and tipping water elements for smaller children.

Which resort waterparks feel like a mini vacation?

Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa

Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa in Bonita Springs feels more like a mini waterpark than a typical hotel pool area. The sprawling pool complex includes waterslides, a winding lazy river, waterfalls, hot tubs, and lagoon-style pools.

The standout attractions are the three-story waterslides, including fast body slides and twisting tube rides. Younger children can use shallow splash areas with smaller slides and water play features, while adults can retreat to quieter pools and cabanas.

Address: 5001 Coconut Rd., Bonita Springs

Website: www.hyatt.com/hyatt-regency/en-US/naprn-hyatt-regency-coconut-point-resort-and-spa

Best for: elementary-aged kids, tweens, teens, and resort-day families

Top features: big slides, lazy river, lagoon pools, cabanas, and private island beach access

Good to know: day passes may be available for families not staying overnight

Another major draw is the resort’s private island beach park, reached by boat shuttle. Families can pair pool time with shelling, calm Gulf water, and beach lounging.

JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort

JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort also offers a strong water-play setup for families. Its Tiki Tribe Discovery Park adds waterslides and splash features to a beach resort vacation.

Address: 400 S. Collier Blvd., Marco Island

Website: www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/mrkfl-jw-marriott-marco-island-beach-resort/overview

Best for: younger children, beach-loving families, and multigenerational trips

Top features: waterslides, spray features, splash zones, climbing structures, family pool, and beach access

Good to know: the resort also offers mini golf, paddleboarding, shelling, bike rentals, and family programming

While it is not a full-scale waterpark, the JW Marriott gives kids enough aquatic fun between beach trips. Multiple restaurants and spacious outdoor areas help the resort feel lively without becoming overwhelming.

Which nearby day trip is budget-friendly?

North Port Aquatic Center

North Port Aquatic Center is a hidden gem between Fort Myers and Sarasota. It is a municipal waterpark, so it does not have the flash of a major attraction, but families like its clean layout and reasonable admission.

The park includes three water slides, a zero-entry kids activity pool, a splash pad area, a lazy river called the Relaxahatchee, and a 25-meter competition pool. The Sand Dollar Snack Shack provides concessions on-site.

Address: 6924 Pan American Blvd., North Port

Website: www.northportfl.gov/Community-Recreation/North-Port-Aquatic-Center

Best for: toddlers through middle-school-aged children

Top features: open slide, light-up tunnel slide, drop bowl slide, lazy river, and splash pad

Good to know: it is a good weekday option for families who want fewer crowds

It is not as large as the big-name parks, but families with younger children often find it the right size. The mix of toddler areas, slides, and lazy river gives everyone a way to cool off.

How should parents choose the right waterpark?

The best choice depends on your child’s age, swimming confidence, budget, and need for shade. A toddler who loves fountains may not need a major resort. A teen who wants speed may need bigger slides.

Choose Sun-N-Fun Lagoon for classic Naples waterpark fun with younger kids.

Choose Sun Splash for the broadest all-ages waterpark day near Lee County.

Choose Great Wolf Lodge Naples for indoor, all-weather slides and a special occasion.

Choose Golden Gate Aquatic Facility for a short, affordable Naples splash session.

Choose Hyatt Coconut Point for a resort pool day with bigger slides.

Choose JW Marriott Marco Island for beach vacation water play.

Choose North Port Aquatic Center for a budget-friendly day trip.

What should families know before they go?

Always check park websites before your visit. Summer hours, seasonal closures, special events, and maintenance windows can affect your plans.

Buying tickets online in advance is often cheaper than paying at the gate. It also can help you avoid sellouts during peak summer weekends.

Pack sunscreen and reapply more often than you think.

Bring water shoes for hot pavement and slippery splash areas.

Pack a change of clothes for the ride home.

Carry a refillable water bottle to keep kids hydrated.

Check food policies because many parks do not allow outside food inside the gates.

Ask about life vests if your child is still building water confidence.

Finally, consider a weekday visit whenever possible. Summer weekends at popular waterparks near SWFL can mean longer lines, crowded pools, and packed parking lots.

Discovery School at CMON will open in Fall 2026 at Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples, giving local families a new play-based early learning option for PreK3 and PreK4 students.

The new early learning center will be located on the museum’s second floor in a renovated 6,000-square-foot space. When complete, it will include six classrooms and serve about 90 students.

CMON says the program will use hands-on learning, guided exploration, and the museum’s unique setting to support whole-child development and kindergarten readiness.

Where will Discovery School at CMON be located?

Discovery School at CMON will be housed inside Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples on the museum’s second floor.

Renovations began in January to transform 6,000 square feet into a dedicated early learning space. The completed school will include six classrooms for PreK3 and PreK4 students.

The museum is working with Owen-Ames-Kimball as contractor, MHK Architecture as the architectural firm, and Cost+Plus as owner’s representative.

The school will also use the resources of the museum and nearby North Collier Regional Park. Children will learn through guided exploration, play, and the world around them.

CMON CEO Jonathan Foerster said the project responds to a growing local need.

“Collier County desperately needs more early learning opportunities for students to help prepare them for kindergarten and beyond,” said CMON CEO Jonathan Foerster. “Addressing this need felt like a natural extension of the work we do every day to help children and families play and explore together.

“We are excited to bring a high-quality play-based early learning experience in Southwest Florida’s best place to play.”

Visit www.cmon.org/discoveryschoolatcmon for the school’s current information.

What ages will the new early learning center serve?

Discovery School at CMON will serve PreK3 and PreK4 students. The program is designed for young children preparing for kindergarten and future academic success.

The school will offer a full-day, 12-month calendar. CMON says this schedule is intended to make the program accessible for families where all caregivers are employed.

The curriculum will be play-based and led by Director Jessica Campbell, an educational leader who has run both public and nonprofit schools.

Children will use imagination, exploration, and hands-on activities as part of their daily learning. The museum setting gives students access to exhibits and experiences beyond a traditional classroom.

Foerster said play is central to the school’s approach.

“Children learn best through play,” Foerster said. “This school will be a space where they leave screens behind using their imaginations and the world around them instead to develop the critical building blocks necessary for long-term success.”

Families in Collier and Lee Counties looking for early learning options may want to follow the school’s enrollment updates as Fall 2026 approaches.

Is financial assistance available for families?

CMON says about 20 percent of available seats will be designated for families earning 100 percent or less of the area median income.

Scholarships for those seats will cover 50 to 75 percent of tuition costs. The press release does not list tuition amounts or application requirements.

The project received seed funding through a $1.5 million award from the State of Florida. CMON credited then Senate President Kathleen Passidomo and Rep. Lauren Melo, who sponsored the appropriation.

The award covers approximately 40 percent of the $4 million total construction costs. CMON says naming opportunities remain for donors who want to support the school.

Foerster said access is part of the plan for the new center.

“We fully expect Discovery School at CMON to quickly rank among the best early learning centers in our community,” Foerster said. “And we want to make sure it is accessible families from across the economic spectrum just like we work to make the museum accessible to everyone.”

How can parents join the waitlist or learn more?

Families interested in enrolling or learning more about Discovery School at CMON are encouraged to join the waitlist.

You may also contact Jessica Campbell for details about the program.

If your family includes an active-duty service member, this summer is full of free family adventures right here in Southwest Florida. The Blue Star Museums 2026 program offers free museum admission for military families at more than 2,000 venues nationwide — including museums, botanical gardens, children’s museums, science centers, and historical sites. And several outstanding options are right here in Lee County and Collier County.

The program runs from Armed Forces Day (Saturday, May 16) through Labor Day (Monday, September 7, 2026) — giving military families an entire summer of discovery at no cost.

Whether you’re living in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, Bonita Springs, or anywhere in between, these local participating venues are ready to welcome your family this summer.

Blue Star Museums is a national partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), Blue Star Families, and the U.S. Department of Defense — a collaboration that has connected military families with America’s cultural heritage every summer since 2010. Find the full, searchable list of venues at arts.gov/BlueStarMuseums. New locations join throughout the summer, so check back regularly.

The Online Safety Forum for Parents hosted by Collier County Public Schools will help families understand online risks facing children today. The forum takes place on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in Naples.

Collier County Public Schools is hosting the event in partnership with local law enforcement and community organizations. The focus is practical: social media misuse, online gaming risks, child exploitation, and human trafficking.

For families in Collier and Lee Counties, this forum offers a local opportunity to hear real-world information from people working directly on child protection concerns.

Where is the Online Safety Forum for Parents being held?

The forum will be held at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Administrative Center Board Room.

What: Community Forum on Online Safety and Child Protection

When: Monday, May 11, 2026 | 6:00 p.m.

Where: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Administrative Center Board Room (5775 Osceola Trail, Naples, FL)

The event is designed for families who want to better understand the digital spaces where children spend time. That includes social media platforms, online games, and other internet-based communication.

Why is this child online safety forum important for families?

Recent data shared by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office shows why this topic is urgent for local families.

Reports of AI-generated child sexual abuse material have increased by more than 31,000% nationwide in the past three years.

Cases of sextortion and online enticement have risen by more than 3,400% since 2021.

From 2023-2025, the Southwest Florida Intercept Task Force initiated more than 2,600 investigations and identified 177 child victims.

Local law enforcement seized approximately 500,000 files of child sexual abuse material during that same period.

These numbers can feel overwhelming. The purpose of the Online Safety Forum for Parents is to turn concern into useful knowledge and action.

The forum will focus on the growing threats children may face online. It will also address how families can better recognize risks in the digital landscape.

What online risks will parents learn about at the forum?

The forum will address several areas that affect children and teens online. These topics are connected because children often move between apps, games, messages, and social spaces throughout the day.

Social media misuse

Online gaming risks

Child exploitation

Human trafficking

Sextortion and online enticement

AI-generated child sexual abuse material

Collier County Public Schools says the forum is designed to equip families with practical knowledge, real-world insights, and actionable tools. The goal is to help families better safeguard children in today’s digital landscape.

This can be especially helpful if your child uses online games, social media, chats, or shared devices. Even families with strong household rules may benefit from hearing current information from local experts.

Next step: Make a list of the apps, games, and online spaces your child uses most often.

Who is hosting the Online Safety Forum for Parents?

Collier County Public Schools is hosting the forum in partnership with local law enforcement and community organizations. The event is part of a broader effort to help families understand and respond to online child safety concerns.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office shared the data behind the forum’s urgency. Local law enforcement and community partners will help provide information rooted in real investigations and local experience.

For parents in Collier and Lee Counties, this event can offer a clearer picture of what child exploitation and online enticement may look like today. It also gives families a chance to hear about these issues in a local setting.

How can parents prepare before attending?

You do not need to be a technology expert to benefit from this forum. The event is intended to help families gain practical knowledge and tools.

Before you attend, consider writing down the online safety questions that matter most in your home. You may want to think about social media, gaming, messaging, privacy, or how to recognize concerning online behavior.

Review what devices your child uses.

Write down the apps, games, and platforms your child mentions often.

Think about any recent online safety concerns in your home.

Bring a notebook or use your phone to take notes.

The forum will not replace ongoing family conversations, but it can give you better language and local context for those talks.

Share the event with another parent, caregiver, or school family who may benefit.

What should families do if they want to attend?

Families who want to attend the Online Safety Forum for Parents should plan to arrive at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Administrative Center Board Room by 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026.

The address is 5775 Osceola Trail, Naples, FL. The press release did not list a registration requirement, cost, or contact phone number.

This forum is a timely opportunity for parents and caregivers who want to better protect children from online exploitation and human trafficking risks. It also gives families in Collier and Lee Counties a local place to learn more about online safety concerns affecting children.
